New TAVR data, valve approval provide hope for
patients with severe aortic stenosis
Late 2011 marked the first US commercial approval of a transcatheter
device that enables aortic valve replacement without the need for CABG. In the
wake of the FDA approval, positive data on transcatheter aortic valve
replacement from the PARTNER cohort B trial at 2 years and quality of life and
cost-effectiveness from the PARTNER cohort A trial were announced at the 23rd
annual Transcatheter Cardiovascular Therapeutics scientific symposium.
